Daniela Coats, LMSW
(Under the Supervision of Suisan Walker, LCSW-S)
Hi, my name is Daniela Coats. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker who works with children and families. My goal is to assist your child in processing and navigating life changes and challenges. I do this by working closely with the parent, and providing wrap-around support for the entire family. I want your family to experience healthy functioning, and to be able to simply enjoy each other.
My Journey To Becoming A Therapist
I have worked with parents and children for many years, and my current role enables me to combine these backgrounds in order to serve families. Just like the families that I serve, my own family experiences delights and challenges. The sum of all my life experiences have led me to this place, in order to serve in this capacity.
My Professional Background
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Social Work and Associate of Science in Psychology from Southwestern Assemblies of God University, and received my Master of Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington. I have approximately 10 years of professional and voluntary experience working with children, and have been walking alongside parents for the past 7 years as a parent educator and trainer. I have experience in a variety of social work contexts, including foster care and adoption, school social work, the criminal justice system, and the houseless population.
I have received formal training in Behavior and Crisis Management Training (BCMT), and generally apply family systems theory, attachment theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and solution-focused therapy to my work.
Helping People Is What I Look Forward To Every Day
I believe that you, your child, and your family, have the ability to experience joy and transformation. I have the honor of supporting your family by prioritizing the strengths that you already possess. It is a privilege to accompany you, as your family walks the path of healing. I will celebrate the wins with you, being your and your child’s biggest cheerleader!
I Have Compassion For People And Bring Warmth And Understanding To Sessions
… and a bit of fun! Working with children, I have the unique and exciting job of encouraging play. While sessions are filled with a lot of fun, I also have a natural ability to engage children in meaningful conversation, encourage parents to a deeper relationship with their children, and provide ongoing resources that will help the family long-term. I believe that we can thrive when positioned within supportive and understanding communities – I am honored to be included in yours.
Our Sessions Are Focused On You
I believe that children thrive when they are doing what they know and love best – playing! Sessions with children include play and focus on interactive ways to engage the child in conversation. Play disarms fear, which allows children to become comfortable within the session. Providing children with this space allows their voices to be heard.
As A Therapist, I Embrace The Following Philosophies
I believe that you and your child have inherent worth.
I believe that you and your child have the strength to cope with life’s challenges and changes.
I believe that it is honorable to ask for help.
I believe that your family can find a healthy balance and experience joy.
I believe that we thrive when we exist within a healthy, empathetic support system.
